Rabat – Morocco is a key player in regional stability, said on Saturday the French Presidency in Tangier.

In a document released during a two-day visit of friendship and work by French President François Hollande to Morocco, on Saturday and Sunday, the French presidency said that this shift is “an opportunity to reaffirm the commitment of both countries in the fight against terrorism. ”

For the Elysée Palace, Morocco’s support for France at the international level is of ‘a major character’.

The document recalled the Kingdom’s links with West African and Arab countries including the Gulf States, noting that West Africa is a priority for Moroccan foreign policy.

“Morocco maintains relations related to cultural, linguistic and religious proximity with the states of this area,” informed the French Presidency.

The Elysée said that economic ties are also strong because Rabat is the leading investor in West Africa, with companies such as Maroc Telecom, Royal Air Maroc and Attijari

Wafabank, adding that many migrants and students from the region study in the Kingdom.

The document added that in the Arab world, Morocco, who will host the Arab League Summit in March 2016, plays a moderating role.

On Saturday, King Mohammed VI received President François Hollande for official talks at the Palais Marchane in Tangier.

These talks focused on the will and renewed ambition of both countries to strengthen their  already exceptional partnership.

Both the King and the French President welcomed the strong historical base of the Morocco-France partnership, reaffirming the ambitious course, pioneering vocation and forward thinking of this relationship at  the Euro-Mediterranean and Euro-African levels.
