Casablanca- The “Smart Street” competition is a learning program for young entrepreneurialprofessionals hosted by the Injaz Al-Maghrib association. Young entrepreneurs will learn to put their acquired knowledge into practice.
In the second “Smart Street” competition, 20 selected professionals will be granted the opportunity to present their projects and ideas to a group of qualified and experienced judges. The audition for the participants took place on August 31.
Created in 2007 under the leadership of the SNI Group, InjazAl-Maghrib is an association with the mission to reveal the potential of Morocco’s youth. With close collaboration with companies and partnerships (such as the US Agency for International Development [USAID] and CEED Maroc), aspiring students will be given technical know-how and advice in order to be able to start a business on their own someday.
In an interview with Leseco.ma, Yassine Mseffer, the association’s general manager, said, “At first, it was about high school and university students to come up with a fictional business idea that aimed to be a sort of test. However, the young people wanted more than that. They really wanted to create a business for real life. Thus, we changed the program in a way that partnerships and collaboration support the needs of the young people so that they can create their own start-ups.”
Further, he added, “Last year, ‘Street Smart’ was able to host only 10 young entrepreneurs, who came from all around Morocco. For this year, if we happen to have just 50 percent of the participants succeed, we would bevery pleased. It may seem to be a bit overwhelming, but it’s manageable. There are some with a bright future ahead of them.”
The organization has trained 50,000 young people since 2007 all around Morocco, such as in El Jadida, Khouribga, Safi, Agadir, Fez, Oujda, Laayoune, Marrakech, Agadir , Tangier, Casablanca, and Kenitra.
