Rabat- A prince from Saudi Arabia was arrested by Moroccan authorities at Mohammed V Airport in Casablanca on Thursday and placed in custody at the prison of Salé, according to Moroccan daily Al Massae’s weekend edition.

The Saudi prince was about to board a Casablanca-Paris flight when border police discovered that his identity matched that of a man wanted by Interpol office in Saudi Arabia for whom an international arrest warrant had been issued.

According to sources cited by the daily, the Saudi prince whose identity has not been revealed to the press, was arrested by undercover police when waiting to get Morocco’s exit stamp on his passport.

The suspect and another Saudi national who was traveling with him were prevented from leaving Moroccan territory and asked to enter a separate room for investigation.

After confirming his identity with Interpol, both men were officially arrested and sent to Rabat to comply with warrant procedures, the same source noted.

The Saudi prince and his companion were presented to the public prosecutor who ordered their preventive detention at the Salé prison.

Saudi and Moroccan authorities are allegedly working on the case to define an outcome and possible extradition of the Saudi nationals.

Two other Saudi princes have been arrested in the last two months. On October 26, Lebanese authorities detained a Saudi prince after seizing two tons of amphetamines inside a private plane set to depart Beirut.

Last September, Saudi prince Majed Majed bin Abdullah bin Abdulaziz was arrested after being accused of sexually assaulting a maid and four others at his mansion in Beverly Hills, in California.
