New York – The Mayor of the French city of Béziers (Hérault), Robert Ménard, said during a speech focused on French “identity” on Tuesday that he wants to “find” the France of Charles Martel.
“I want to regain our France…that of Louix XIV, Napoleon, and if the Ministry of the Interior authorizes me, that of Charles Martel,” Ménard said, referring to the ruler of the Franks who fought Muslim armies at the Battle of Poitiers in 732.
The nationalist Mayor does not agree with other religions or languages spoken in France, and wants to retain Catholic traditions across the country.
“I want to continue to live in a country where French is spoken and not a kind of pidgin suburban, I want to continue to walk in the villages built in the shadow of churches, I want a Nativity in my city ??hall,” he said.
“We are corroded from the inside (and) we want what we do not want to vomit,” Ménard added mocking those who “are content to simply avoid drinking a coffee at a terrace of a bistro but attend candles vigils,” after a tragedy.
The Mayor of Bèziers, a city in the south of France, believes it is wrong to conform to the society of today, which condemns crimes by simply expressing “Je suis Charlie” or “Je suis Paris”. “None of these collective reactions are up to par [with the France of the past],” he said.
“Imagine the French in 1916 walking with a paper [that said] ‘Je suis Verdun”, or welcoming French General de Gaulle with ‘Je suis Charles”,” the mayor stressed, denouncing France’s lack of action.
In October, Robert Ménard declared that he would not allow the opening of more kébab shops in his city to protect the “Judeo-Christian tradition” of France.
“At some point, too much is too much. When there are too many immigrants in a country, it’s too many immigrants,” he said to France 2 TV in regards to Muslim immigrants.
