Casablanca  –  Morocco’s GDP should rise by 1.3 percent in 2016, due to weather’s effects on growth and the low contribution of non-agricultural activities, the High Commissioner for Planning, Ahmed Lahlimi, said on Wednesday in Casablanca.

The rate will be impacted by the decline of agricultural GDP (- 12.7 percent) and a weak non-agricultural growth, he said during a press conference dedicated to Morocco’s national economy and its prospects for 2016.

The 2015-2016 agricultural campaign might be among the driest years that the country has ever known, he went on.

Drought’s impact on agricultural activity should, however, be attenuated in 2016 by the relative improvement of irrigated crops and the strengthening of investment programs as well as technical and financial support within the framework of Morocco’s Green Plan, the High Commissioner said.

The analysis of the national economic situation in 2015 and its prospects for 2016 shows a slowdown in non-agricultural activities in an environment characterized by low inflation, he added.
