Casablanca – Morocco’s four main unions on Wednesday announced a 24-hour national strike on February 24th.
In a joint statement issued following their meeting in Casablanca, the Moroccan Labour Union (UMT), the Democratic Labour Confederation (CDT), the General Union of Morocco’s Workers (UGTM) and the Democratic Labour Federation (FDT) said the strike comes in protest against the government’s ignorance of their demands concerning social issues, notably the reform of the pension schemes.
The decision to go on strike comes after exhausting all efforts to get the Government to hold tripartite collective negotiations and addressing warnings to the Executive, the statement added.
Through this strike, the main unions seek to get the Government to hold a serious and responsible dialogue concerning several unsettled issues, guarantee total respect of union liberties, increase salaries and reform the pension scheme, according to the same source.
