Marrakech – In a press conference organized by the National Coordination of Teacher Trainees in Rabat on Monday, the teacher trainees levied heavy criticism against the government after it threatened them with the loss of the 2015/2016 educational year.

The coordination, with the representatives of the principal unions and the members of civic initiatives to solve teacher trainee issues, attended two sessions of dialogue with the government concerning two decrees (02-15-588 and 02-15-598) adopted by the Ministry of Education, which establishes the framework of the Teaching Regional Centers.

The dialogue was described by the Coordination as “irresponsible and non serious dialogue.” As the teacher trainees were waiting for the third session of dialogue, the official speaker of the government, Mustapha Al Khalfi, surprised them with an official ultimatum that they must go back to teaching, or be responsible for the white year.

Accordingly, Abdullah El Darazi, a member of the National Council of the Coordination, emphasized that the white year is inconsequential for teacher trainees, as they are not ready to step back until the cancellation of the Ministry of Education’s two decrees.

“If the government threatened us with the white year, we, in our turn, promise it with a black year of protesting in streets” he added. Also, during the conference Abdullah El Darazi said “we did not see any serious deal with our issue during the pre-dialogues with the Governor of Rabat, Sale and Kenitra.”

The National Coordination of Teacher Trainees underlined that it refused the government’s offer, which included that the government is ready to hire all the teacher trainees of this educational year through two phases, the first consisting of 7,000 teacher trainees in August, and the second at the beginning of the 2017.

The Coordination announced that it is always ready for serious and responsible talks with the government, provided that the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Public Service, and the Ministry of Finance Representatives are present.

Waiting for the dialogue, the Coordination planned a protest program, including regional marches in several Moroccan cities next Thursday, which will end by of February 14, when the National Council of the Coordination members meets for other protesting programs in case there is no solution.
