Rabat – Bob Campbell, an activist for the United Kingdom’s Labour Party, clarified Monday that his membership in the party has not been suspended despite recent reports that said a Facebook post he shared – declaring that “[the so-called “Islamic State”] is run by Israel” – landed him at odds with party officials and resulted in his expulsion from the organization.
The post – shared just one day after the Brussels bombings – lists a series of four terrorists attacks claimed by ISIS in France, Japan, Indonesia, and Belgium which occurred shortly after each country either recognized Palestine or organized an event or project for the advancement of the Palestinian cause.
One day later, Campbell shared an image, again on Facebook, stating that ISIS has not yet attacked Israel “because the dog doesn’t bite its own tail”.
British news sources reported last week that Campbell was suspended after local parliament member Tom Blenkinsop discovered the comments and pursued an investigation.
Campbell told The Independent, however, that he is not anti-semitic and that he had not been suspended.
Campbell has also posted pictures comparing the Holocaust to the situation in Gaza and showing disdain for the Israeli Prime Minister, in addition to the two most recent posts.
“I post lots of pro-Jewish posts but I [also] post anti-Zionist posts,” the activist said.
Several members of the Labour Party have been accused of anti-semitism over the past few years.
Earlier this month, party member Vicki Kirby was suspended pending investigation for posting anti-Semitic comments to Facebook and Twitter.
Similarly, the Mayor of Bradford, Khadim Hussain was suspended from the party for posting a picture stating “the deaths of millions of Africans are not taught in schools but [the] education system only tells you about Anne Frank and the six million Zionists that were killed by Hitler”.
