The Hague – The United Nations on Wednesday praised the leadership of King Mohammed VI and Morocco’s role in the global fight against terrorism.

“I praise Morocco and HM King Mohammed VI for the leadership of the Kingdom in the global fight against terrorism”, Director of the UN Counter-Terrorism Centre (UNCCT), Jehangir Khan, told MAP on the sidelines of the 9th meeting of the Coordination Committee of the Global Forum for the Fight against Terrorism (GCTF), held in the Hague.

This pioneering role has been “confirmed today by Morocco’s access to the co-chair of the Global Forum for the Fight against Terrorism (GCTF), an important platform that brings together many countries in different regions of the world to promote multilateral cooperation, in support of the UN efforts for the development of the global strategy against terrorism”, stressed Khan, also director of the UN Counter-Terrorism Implementation Task Force (CTITF).

The UN official added that Morocco is an active member of the UN, pointing out that the Moroccan-Dutch co-chair of GCTF will be a “good opportunity” to focus on important issues, such as the phenomenon of foreign fighters and the fight against the underlying factors of terrorism and extremism in the short or long terms.
