Rabat – The next seasons of the series “Vikings” and “Sherlock” will feature scenes shot in Morocco, according to the Huff Post Maroc, citing informed sources.
The Irish-Canadian historical drama television series, “Vikings,” written and created by Michael Hirst will shoot some scenes for its fifth season in Erfoud, a city in the south east of Morocco, according to the report. “Sherlock” series 4, the filming of which is now under way, chose Marrakech for the shooting of some scenes in the coming months.
According to the Irish Times, auditions for “Vikings” took place this week, as the show prepares to shoot an extended fifth season beginning next month.
“Vikings” was inspired by the sagas of Icelandic Viking Ragnar Lothbrok, one of the best-known legendary Norse heroes and notorious as the scourge of England and France.
The BBC said that the filming for series four of Sherlock, the multi-award-winning hit BBC One drama produced by Hartswood Films, has started.
Morocco continues to attract foreign film productions, with the city of Ouarzazate considered among the best destinations for international filmmakers.
The fifth season of the “Prison Break” series is currently filming in three cities in Morocco namely Casablanca, Rabat, and Ouarzazate.
The producer obtained a filming permit approving the show’s cast and crew to work in the three cities from March 28 to June 17, 2016.
Among the most recent films shot in Morocco are the fifth installment of “Mission Impossible,” “Les Nouvelles Aventures d’Aladin”(the new adventures of Aladdin) by Arthur Benzaquen, and “Son of God,” produced by Roma Downey & Mark Burnett.
