Fez – Princess Lalla Salma, accompanied by Sheikha Mozah Bint Nasser Al Missned, chaired, Friday in Fez, the opening ceremony of the 22nd Fez Festival of World Sacred Music, held under the high patronage of King Mohammed VI.

Upon her arrival at the historic square of Bab Makina, Princess Lalla Salma and Sheikha Mozah Bint Nasser reviewed a detachment of the Auxiliary Forces who made the honors before being greeted by Interior Minister, Mohamed Hassad, Minister of Culture, Mohamed Amine Sbihi, Wali of the Fez-Meknes region, Governor of the prefecture of Fez, Essaid Zniber, and Chairman of the region, Mohand Laenser.

Princess Lalla Salma and Sheikha Mozah Bint Nasser were also greeted by the President of the Council of the city of Fez, President of the prefectural assembly of Fez, the President of Al-Mechouar Fès-Jdid Council, the President and Director General of the “Fez Spirit” Foundation, as well as by members of the organizing committee of the Festival, which runs until June 14.

Afterwards, Princess Lalla Salma, accompanied by Sheikha Mozah bint Nasser, joined the official stand where their Highnesses attended the inaugural concert of the festival, “Sky Full of Stars”, a tribute to the legendary women of the East and Morocco whose stories were told by Scheherazade.

At the end of this evening, Princess Lalla Salma and Sheikha Mozah Bint Nasser were greeted by a large number of artists who participated in this inaugural show.

Like the previous editions, the Fez Festival of World Sacred Music offers an anthology of musical expressions of different world cultures and traditions, free concerts to the public and Sufi evenings and other educational activities.

Held under the theme “Female Founders,” this edition is an opportunity to pay tribute to female builders through an original creation and artists coming from several countries, notably Moroccan Samira Said and Hindi Zahra, Iranian Sahar Mohammadi, Iraqi Farida Muhammad Ali, Malian Oumou Sangaré or Reunion Christine Salem and Brazil’s Virginia Rodrigues.
