Fez – Marrakech aims to strengthen its position and become an international tourism destination thanks to “The Present Renewed Marrakech” diverse project, 2014-2017.

The promising project is designed to create and restore many streets, including Hassan II and Guemassa, in addition to implementing a new computerized system to regulate traffic and improves access for people with special needs to use public facilities, according to Maghreb Arab Press (MAP).

The project’s funding, which amounts to MAD 3.6 billion over its four years, also places value on cultural heritage, improves urban transport and integration, consolidates good governance, and preserves the environment.

Under the same project, Marrakech will witness the restoration of many historic monuments, city walls, and three districts of the old Medina. It will also create a city of Popular Arts, a Heritage Museum, a conservatory, a Moroccan water culture museum, two hospitals, two health care centers, and 18 educational institutions.

Another MAD 25.2 billion in investments will improve urban integration, mainly to build new health care structures, educational institutions, sport expanses and to develop marginalized neighborhoods.

Additionally, a project to develop Marrakech Menara Airport, doubling its capacity to reach 9 million passengers a year, is expected to finish ahead of the World Conference on Climate Change, “COP 22”, scheduled to take place next November in the ochre city.

This project will build a new air terminal and restore Air Station 1, its infrastructure, and the structures associated with it. The new Air Station will be quipped with the latest technologies, incorporating international standards within the fields of safety, security, and quality of service, including an automatic system to handle luggage, six telescopic bridges, and surveillance cameras.

The project is important for many sectors, especially tourism, which is considered a strong pillar of the local economy.
