Rabat – King Mohammed VI gave his instructions to the competent Moroccan authorities to contribute with two Canadair aircrafts to assist Portugal’s efforts in fighting fires on Madeira’s Island, the Royal Office said.
Following the forest fires that broke out in several areas of Madeira’s Island in Portugal that claimed the lives of many people and caused extensive damage, and given the distinguished relations between Morocco and Portugal that are based on friendship, cooperation and solidarity, King Mohammed VI gave his instructions to the Moroccan authorities to contribute with two Canadair aircrafts to assist Portugal’s efforts in fighting the raging fires, the source pointed out in a statement.
Three people were killed, two seriously hurt and around a thousand forced to flee overnight as fires ravaged the Portuguese island of Madeira, rescuers said Wednesday.
