Peugeot Chooses Morocco to Showcase its New 3008 DKR

New York – Team Peugeot has chosen the sand dunes of Morocco to showcase its new 3008 DKR in action.

Peugeot’s new 3008 DKR will get its first test of endurance and competitive action when it takes the start line at the Rallye du Maroc on October 2.

Two-time WRC winner and former Dakar Rally champ Calros Sainz will take the wheel of this ferocious driving machine alongside co-driver Lucas Cruz.

The Rallye du Maroc consists of five stages covering over 1,885km in total. The first 240km stage takes place in the coastline, before moving to stage two, a total of 554km named ‘from ocean to dunes’. Stage three takes in a further 390km and is named ‘oriental route’. Stage four is the ‘Erfoud Loop’ with the final stage covering 275km.

This is not the ordinary Peugeot 3008. The body shell shares styling with the new SUV-styled 3008 being shown at the Paris Motor Show, but underneath it uses “a purpose-built chassis designed for maximum speed in the challenging Dakar desert rally. The 3008 DKR also differs from the regular model with a mid-mounted engine and only rear-wheel drive.  Most rally machines are four-wheel drive, but Team Peugeot won in 2008 with a two-wheel drive car for the first time in 15 years.

And Peugeot hopes its 3008 DKR is the machine that will bring it another year of success in the Dakar Rally.

The Mondial de L’Automobile or Paris Motor Show is singularly one of the most awaited for events in the world of motoring.

Held in the France’s largest exhibition center, Porte de Versailles, it is the home turf of French manufacturers like Renault, Peugeot, and Citroen.  But now a worldwide event, major manufacturers are showing their latest models, facelifts, and concept on the expo floor.

In 2014, the show entertained over 1.2 million visitors making in the most trafficked car show in the world.

The show, which is held every two years, opens to the public on October 1 and runs until October 16.
