Royal Air Maroc Bans Samsung Galaxy Note 7 on Its Flights

Rabat – Royal Air Maroc has banned the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphones which has been exploding and injuring users.

Morocco’s official airline joins many others which have taken the same precaution to protect their passengers.

“Following recent incidents and concerns raised by Samsung about the Galaxy Note 7 and the recommendations of the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration), Royal Air Morocco shall inform passengers of the prohibition of lighting or to recharge the onboard equipment and the prohibition of their acceptance in all hold baggage. This is to ensure passenger safety and that of the plane,” said the statement.

The electronics giant, Samsung, acknowledged the problem was caused by overheating of the battery and announced the recall of millions of copies of the Note 7.

The Galaxy Note 7 went on sale in early August, since then there have been reports of over three dozen smartphones catching fire.

This past weekend, a 6-year-old New York boy was burned when the Note 7 exploded in his hands, reported The New York Post.

“The child was watching videos on the phone when the battery exploded,” the New York boy’s grandmother told the Post.

“There is no way to recover this version of the phone. … Samsung has a huge black eye,” says tech analyst Rob Enderle of the Enderle Group, in USA Today.

Shares of the South Korean company have dropped 7% as the week started.
