Paris – Morocco, reiterated, before the UN Ministerial Conference on Peacekeeping in Francophone Environments, its commitment to working with the UN to contribute to peacekeeping operations.

In a statement to MAP on the sidelines of his participation in this conference, held on Oct. 26-27 in Paris, Morocco’s permanent representative to the UN, ambassador Omar Hilale, underlined that Morocco reiterated during this meeting its commitment to working with the UN to contribute to peacekeeping operations every time it is needed and if it is possible.

The Kingdom also pledged to provide high-ranking officials to be recruited within the chain of command, said the Moroccan diplomat, noting that Morocco has a long history in peacekeeping operations, in addition to courageous soldiers who were involved in preserving security worldwide.

Since its first participation in peacekeeping operations in 1960 in Congo, Morocco now has reached 100,000 privates taking part in the said operations, while twenty Moroccan soldiers died for peace in the world, he said, stressing that the Kingdom is among the top 15 countries supplying troops.
