Rabat – Morocco was unanimously elected as president of the “International Road Safety” organization for a four-year mandate during the general meeting of this international organization, recently held Lisbon.

Morocco was represented at the meeting by permanent secretary of the national committee of traffic accidents prevention, Nasser Boulaajoul, said a statement by the committee.

Morocco will be the first Arab and African country to chair this important international organization, the same source added.

Founded in 1959, the “International Road Safety” organization aims to strengthen cooperation between institutions working in the field of prevention and road safety.

The organization, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2009, includes specialized bodies in road safety from 45 countries.
