Stockholm – Three British researchers were awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics on Tuesday for revealing secrets behind unusual properties of matter.
David Thouless won half of the 8 million Swedish kronor ($931,000) cash award, while Duncan Haldane and Michael Kosterlitz split the remaining half.
All three were British born and subsequently based at U.S. universities.
Their research looks at what is called Topology, a branch of mathematics that describes properties that only change stepwise and is significant for quantum physics.
