Rabat – The 16th Francophonie Summit, which wrapped up Sunday in Antananarivo, welcomed the outcome of the 22nd Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP22), Held on November 7-18 in Marrakech.

“We welcome the outcome of the 22nd Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP22) in Marrakech,” said the final declaration of the summit, held on November 26-27.

The Heads of State and Government, which took part in the summit, also welcomed the African dimension of this global event, “its inclusive approach and its articulation between the Sustainable Development Objectives (SDOs) and the fight against climate change”.

According to the statement, this UN Conference “made it possible to advance the process of the implementation of the Paris Agreement and the implementation of its relevant decisions”.

Welcoming the role of La Francophonie and calling on the OIF to continue its support for this momentum, they expressed their determination to take the necessary steps to convert the commitments of the Paris Agreement into concrete actions.

The Summit stressed the importance of progressively raising the level of ambition of the parties and encouraging access to equitable and sustainable development through support, research and investment programs, based on an economy that privileges the rational use of natural resources, the recycling and promotion of sustainable and renewable energies.

Held under the theme “Shared Growth and Responsible Development: Conditions for Stability Around the World and within the Francophone,” the 16th Summit of Francophonie kicked off Saturday in Antananarivo with the participation of Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Salaheddine Mezouar, representing King Mohammed VI.

The Summit reviewed themes related to crisis and consolidation of peace in the Francophone world, the promotion of gender equality, the empowerment of women and girls, the prevention of extremism, and the vocational and technical training.

Energy, the promotion of linguistic diversity, the situation of children, local development, environment, dialogue between cultures as a factor of sustainable development, road safety and the blue economy were also on the agenda of this event.
