Rabat – The rain reportedly began around 3am Monday morning and quickly became a major downpour. The resulting deluge was enough to expose the fragile infrastructure of the city of Tangier.
A slew of photos went viral on social media, revealing the structural weakness of the city’s renowned landmarks including the tunnel of Beni Makada, which was inaugurated only a few months ago.
Photos also showed that the heavy rain resulted in massive puddles, forcing drivers redirect their travel routes toward secondary roads. This, in turn, caused heavy traffic congestion on the main highways of Tangier, including the Avenue of Casabarata and Mahaj Mohammed VI.

The delicate nature of the infrastructure has outraged the Tangier’s population who are now claiming that Amendis, the city’s operator of water, wastewaters and electricity, regularly procrastinates on performing vital repairs and maintenance on the infrastructure of the city.
