Casablanca — A slew of international soccer players will head to Tangier in February for a “Gala Match for Peace,” reports Moroccan daily Assabah.
This news comes soon after the 41st Gala match at Laayoune, which was held earlier this month in commemoration of the Moroccan Green March and attended by many prominent soccer players, namely Diego Maradona, who has expressed his love of Morocco several times.
In regards to the upcoming event, “All preparations are going well after having received the agreement of several stars,” a member of the February gala match’s organizing committee told Assabah.
The February gala match, set to take place in Tangier, will gather several renown soccer players, like Ronaldinho de Assis Moreira, the famous 36-year-old soccer player, who announced his upcoming retirement from soccer last September.
The same sources added that Ronaldinho’s former teammate Rivaldo, who attended the Laayoune match this month, should likely be credited for convincing Ronaldhino to participate.
Assabah recalled Rivaldo’s statements at the end of the Laayoune match, where he expressed the “joy of participating in a match with Diego Maradona.” The Laayoune match clearly made a good impression, prompting him to return.
Egyptian goalkeeper Nader Es-Sayed and Liberian forward George Weah are also expected in Tangier this February.
