Casablanca – King Mohammed VI will continue his African tour by heading to Burkina Faso following scheduled visits to Ethiopia and Madagascar.

The sovereign’s tour of the African continent was marked by visits to Rwanda, Tanzania, Senegal, and soon Ethiopia followed by Madagascar and Burkina Faso.

In a communiqué, the Burkina Faso government confirmed the monarch’s impending visit, adding that the sovereign had also invited “Roch Mark Christian Kaboré, President of Burkina Faso Faso for an official visit to Morocco.”

The two countries are planning on furthering their good relationship into more bilateral cooperation, namely within the context of investments, set to benefit Burkina Faso’s social housing and education.

Moroccan presence in Burkina Faso is not to be disregarded, however. Between 2003 and 2013, 8 percent of all Moroccan foreign investments were in Burkina Faso, according to the Moroccan Foreign Exchange Office. Moreover, numerous Moroccan banks, insurance companies and real estate developers have established their presence in the West African country.

Besides a friendly and economic benefit to Mohammed VI’s visit, the king will also likely take advantage of this opportunity to discuss Morocco’s desire to reintegrate the African Union, which it left 32 years ago.
