Morocco Among Rare Safest Countries for US Travelers: US State Department

Casablanca – A new study has ranked Morocco as a ‘low risk’ country for Travelers, as the safest in North Africa.

The Control Risks cabinet and SOS International published a world map on Tuesday, November 15 showing health and security risks around the world.

The study was a joint venture between Control Risks, a consultancy cabinet specializing in integrity, political and security risk and SOS International, the world’s largest medical and travel security services firm.

The study and its accompanying map took into account safety risks, health  risks and road quality in each country. Morocco was labelled yellow on the map, indicating a medium level of risk associated with travel to the North African country.

The map also shows that Morocco is associated with the same level of risk as the United States and European countries, which says a lot about the nation’s improvements in trying to make travel as risk-free as possible.

In terms of safety risks, Morocco was given a “low risk” rating due to the low level of racial, political and terrorist acts of violence. Meanwhile, Tunisia was given a “middle risk” rating for safety while neighboring Algeria was given a “high risk” rating.

Morocco was given a “medium risk” rating for medical/health risk. The study indicates that while urgent care facilities are readily available, viral infections like dengue are something to be aware of. Tunisia and Egypt were given the same “medium risk” rating while Libya was given a “high risk” rating.

In regards the nation’s roads, Morocco was determined as “high risk.” According to the study, the “weak enforcement of the law encourages bad road behavior.” Potential visitors are urged to be careful on the road and make sure that their mode of transportation is in good condition. In this category, Algeria also got a “high risk” road rating while Tunisia got a “very high risk” rating.

The study’s list of “very high risk” countries include Afghanistan, Yemen,, Darfur while the “high risk” list includes countries like Mexico, Honduras, and Egypt. The countries with the lowest risk are Norway, Finland and Sweden.

In international studies, Morocco has often scored relatively well in various international studies. Last April, risk cabinet AON named Morocco the most politically stable country in North Africa for foreign investments. The annual RiskMap report released last December also showed that Morocco was the only North African country to get a ‘low political and security risk’ rating.
