Rabat – FBI statement followed additional review of Clinton’s emails
Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) Director James Comey told Congress on Sunday the agency did not change its mind on the conclusions of US presidential candidate Hillary Clinton that she should not face criminal charges.
This statement was based on a recent and additional review of emails undertaken by the FBI since its initial assessment in July. Comey said on Sunday, “my team has been working around the clock to process and review a large volume and emails.” He added, “we reviewed all emails from and to Hillary Clinton during her time as secretary of state.”
In March 2015, Clinton was accused of using her personal email for official communications which included classified documents. The allegations instigated official investigations by the FBI.
In early July Comey said that Clinton has been “extremely careless” in handling her email communication, after finding out some classified documents in the email. However, he said should not face criminal charges. He also notified the congress back then to extend investigations period until the final result came out today.
The emails investigation has stirred controversy especially as it came during the elections campaign of Clinton. Her republican contestant Donald Trump referred to it time and again during debates and in rallies.
This announcement also comes at a crucial time as the elections are supposed to start on Tuesday. According to a series of recent polls, Clinton is taking a lead in many important states.
According to the ABC/Washington Post poll Mrs Clinton was winning 51 per cent to 43 per cent in the early vote.
