Casablanca – King Mohammed VI inaugurated, on Thursday at the Hay Hassani prefecture in Casablanca, the Mohammed VI University of health sciences, a state-of-the-art institution that aims to position itself as a hub for training and research in the medical field between Africa and Europe.

The Mohammed VI University of health sciences, whose construction works were launched by the King on January 5, 2015, comprises six training institutions, namely a faculty of medicine, a faculty of dentistry, a faculty of nursing and health sciences, an international school of public health, a high school of biomedical engineering, and a faculty of pharmacy, scheduled to open in October 2017.
The first multidisciplinary teaching institution of its kind in Morocco, the Mohammed VI University of health sciences includes a set of facilities, including a national reference laboratory, a research center, an auditorium, and academic residences with a capacity of 1,275 beds, all designed in a modern architecture in accordance with the concepts of sustainability and energy saving.
The new University, which offers a high-level teaching and has qualified administrative staff, adopts the latest teaching methods and tools, both in terms of training and research.
Worth MAD 600 million, the Mohammed VI University of health sciences currently hosts over 1,200 students from Morocco and abroad. It grants scholarships on the basis of academic merit and the social situation of the students. Thus, between 25 and 30% of the University’s students are grant holders selected on the basis of these two criteria by a sovereign commission composed of representatives of the ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Professional Training.
The inauguration ceremony was marked by the screening of an institutional film on the Mohammed VI University of health sciences, with testimonials from Moroccan and foreign students and teachers.
