Casablanca – King Mohammed VI launched, on Wednesday, the development works of the sea promenade for the Casablanca Hassan II Mosque, a project that would completely alter the landscape of this strategic part of the metropolis, which is already undergoing an ambitious development plan.
This project is part of the implementation of the agreement related to upgrading the coastline of the Casablanca-Settat region, inked on September 26, 2014, under the chairmanship of the sovereign, and which provides also for the development of the Dar Bouazza, Aïn Diab, Aïn Sebaâ and Mohammedia coast roads for an amount of 700 million dirhams.
Worth a budget of MAD 200 million (excluding the building of an underground car park of 1,000 parking lots), the said project consists of the construction, from the Hassan II mosque to the El Hank tip, of an urban park which is open to the public and a coast road along the El Hank sea wall.
The 1.5 km-section (around 13 ha) will also include a panoramic area, a recreational area, a cultural area as well as a zone housing restaurants, cafés and an underground car park.
The project, whose design matches its environment, will span 14 months and will be carried out in partnership with the interior ministry, the Casablanca-Settat region wilaya, the Casablanca-Anfa districts’ prefecture, the Casablanca commune and the ‘Société Casablanca Aménagement’.
