Marrakesh – French-Moroccan decentralized cooperation is “vital” and one of the most important in the world, said Thursday in Marrakesh, French minister of Town and Country Planning, Rural Affairs and Local Authorities, Jean Michel Baylet.
“The relationship between France and Morocco is exceptional in all areas, and this is reflected in the vitality of French-Moroccan decentralized cooperation. It is one of the most important in the world, and the most important for France in the Mediterranean,” Baylet said at the opening of the 3rd Moroccan-French meeting on decentralized cooperation, to be held on December 8-9 in Marrakesh.
France and Morocco have a common concern to develop the economy of their respective territories, which would give a considerable boost to partnership between the two countries, he noted.
Baylet added that while France and Morocco are at the forefront of the international mobilization on climate change, the Marrakesh meeting is expected to tackle climate challenges and, more generally, the sustainable development of cities and rural areas.
The two-day event, which brings together over 400 participants, deals with issues related to local government as the two countries are undertaking a significant territorial reform, as well as political and economic development policies benefiting the youth.
