Casablanca — The European Union has invested 17 million dirhams in an INSAF project for the empowerment of single mothers and their children.
INSAF, a Moroccan non-profit that fights for the socio-economic betterment of single mothers and their children, has recently announced a partnership with the European Union wherein 17 million dirhams will be invested in contributing to INSAF’s mission over the course of the next two years.
The project, says INSAF President Bouchra Ghiati, is one for the empowerment of single mothers.

“Here at INSAF,” says Ghiati, “we have a focus on preventing the abandonment of babies born outside of marriage,” adding that “the best way to prevent this abandonment is to allow mothers to get jobs as soon as possible and, in order to do so, we give them the knowledge required for a job so that they can cover their expenses.”
INSAF teaches women various different skills, from nursing and hairdressing to sewing and cooking. But the organization also puts value on literacy and teaches single mothers how to read. Moreover, INSAF’s partnership with various firms helps place women with a more advances educational background.
So far, the non-profit, which was founded in 1999, has been able to help prevent the abandonment of more than 2,000 babies. And this partnership with the European Union will certainly play a big role in strengthening INSAF’s support of single mothers and children.
