Rabat – Security responses alone are no longer enough to manage massive migratory flows in a coherent and concerted manner, said Youssef Amrani, Chargé de Mission at the Royal Office.
Speaking during an interactive debate on migration and security at the Munich Security Conference, Amrani said that Morocco launched the Rabat Process in 2006 which provides a framework for consultation and coordination, contributes to meeting the challenges posed by migration and encourages opportunities for exchange and development.
Amrani stressed the importance of controlled and managed immigration as a source of cultural and social enrichment and underlined the need to fight isolationism through a joint approach between all the partners.
Managing migration flows in a coherent and effective way, will enable a focus on the human dimension of this management. It will also allow for the establishment of a permanent political dialogue between the various stakeholders.
Amrani made these statements during a meeting attended by the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, and IOM Director General William Lacy-Swing.
Morocco’s new migration policy, launched in 2013 at the initiative of King Mohammed VI, has set up a national strategy, an appropriate action plan and a comprehensive immigration policy.
In this way, immigrant integration can be facilitated with an upgrade to the regulatory and institutional framework and the management of migration flows with suitable respect for human rights.
