Rabat – Morocco has a robust and prosperous economy which is turned toward other African countries, Chair of the Africa Socialist International Committee and secretary general of Benin’s Social Democratic Party, Emmanuel Golou, said on Thursday in Rabat.

“Moroccan companies have gained a foothold in many African countries regarding the sectors of banking, insurance and telecommunications,” Golou said in a speech at the opening of the 2nd International Conference on “Cooperation and Issues of Security and Development in West Africa.”

The event was organized by the socialist group and held at the Moroccan parliament, in collaboration with the Foreign relations committee of the Social Union of Popular Forces Party (USFP) and will run from February 16-17.

Golou underlined that when the Atlantic African Gazoduc project is carried out, it will have a huge economic impact on West African countries, adding that this project reflects the Kingdom’s keenness to develop its relations with African countries.

On a security level, he pointed out that Morocco has always been present, either directly or through the United Nations, to work for achieving lasting stability and peace on the continent.
