Moroccan Authorities Establish Controls on Gunpowder

Rabat – Security authorities have launched operations to establish strict controls on gunpowder, a chemical explosive used in the manufacture of bombs, reported the daily Al Ahdath Al Maghribia on Monday, March 6.

The authorities alert on illicit trafficking and use of gunpowder comes in particular after the dismantling of a terrorist cell early February in El Jadida, explained the daily.

Instructions were given to security services to establish control lists on the users of gunpowder, specifying the dates of purchase of the product and the details of the quantities used.

In addition to gunpowder, security authorities established controls on other chemical substances such as nitrogenous fertilizers 30 and 31, from which potassium nitrate, which is also used in the manufacture of explosives, can be extracted.

Al Ahdath Al Maghribia reported that the controls over gunpowder will affect high school and universities’ science laboratories , as well as Tbourida (Fantasia) games, which feature extensive use of the substance.

Several terrorist cells recently dismantled by the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ), confessed to using gunpowder in the manufacture of explosives, added the same source.
