Rabat – A riot broke out in the streets of Al Hoceima on Friday following a football match between the Chabab Rif Al Hoceima and the Wydad Athletic Club.

It might have been mistaken for a grave political protest. Crowds gathered and became increasingly angry, forming two distinct groups. As the streets filled, tensions rose and the crowds began to yell.

In videos released of the incident, large groups of mostly young males can be seen surging tiger, yelling and throwing rocks.

Fan dissatisfaction gave way to urban warfare as the crowd began looting shops, breaking out into fistfights, and even overturning cars. In the videos, a siren can be heard as law enforcement vehicles arrived on the scene to brig the mayhem under control.

Calm was eventually restored to Al Hoceima but not before personal injuries and extensive property damages were suffered. There is no word yet on possible arrests.
