Rabat – Egyptian Islamic scholar Zaghloul El-Naggar, amidst criticism from young Moroccans whose questions he was unable to answer,  has promised his critics that he will retaliate “to prove that they are wrong.”

Following backlash against the scholar’s attempts to present a scientific basis for the Quran, El-Naggar took to his Facebook page Thursday to mount a counterattack, calling his critics “a group of evil.”

The scholar had been giving lectures in universities at Fez as part of last week’s Fourth World Conference of Scholars in the Holy Quran and its Sciences when a group of students began questioning and disputing his theories.

El-Naggar, a founding member of the International Commission on Scientific Signs in the Quran and Sunnah, said, “I’ve visited Morocco many times and I’ve given lectures at several conferences in Morocco, which many people cherish its Islam […] however, usually every nation includes a group of evils who disown their principles and their religion.”

“I have never met any of those people who have such aberrant positions until I recently visited Morocco to attend the Fourth World Conference of Scholars in the Holy Quran and its Sciences,” he said.

El-Naggar went on to note that during his last visit to Morocco, he gave three lectures, in which there were intensive attendance of scholars, professors and students.

“Groups of Moroccan leftists were frightened the ovation by [other] Moroccans had humiliated them,” he continued. “They pushed three young leftists to stir a sort of controversy irrelevant to the topic of the lecture. The audience [has] reacted against them. This proves Moroccan society’s rejection for this this strange atheistic thought.”

El-Naggar concluded his Facebook post by promising that he will go on Facebook live on Saturday to further respond to his critics in order to prove their ignorance.
