Rabat – A few days after his release under electronic surveillance, Saad Lamjarred was given two awards at the first Annual Arab Nation Music Awards held on Sunday, April 23 in Beirut.
Lamjarred’s song “Ghaltana,” received the Best Song of the Year Award and the Best Song of the Maghreb Award.
The now-infamous celebrity also won the award for the Most Viewed Video Clip on YouTube for his song “Ana Machi Sahel”.
Since Lamjarred has been forbidden by the Paris Court of Appeal from leave France, his mother, actress Nezha Regragui, accepted the awards on his behalf at Arab Nation Music Awards ceremony.
Lamjarred had double chances of wining, as his song “Ana Machi Sahel” was also nominated for the award. Singers Abdel Fattah El Grini, Ahmad Chawki and Hatem Ammor were the only other nominees for the Best Maghreb song.El Grini did not leave empty-handed. He also raised the Moroccan flag on the evening by winning the award for the Best Song of an Arab Singer with his song “Jabara Fan.”
The Best Arab Singer, Best Singer of the Host Country, and Best Film or Series Song awards were all won by the Lebanese singer Elissa.
The winners of each category were chosen on the basis of figures collected from the radio stations in the Arab world, the number of views recorded on the artists’ music videos on YouTube, the app Anghami, and also from public votes on the official website of the ceremony, which closed April 11.
Organized by the Music or Media group, which includes the Lebanese NRJ radio and the Lebanese NRJ Hits television channel, the event aims to pay tribute to successful singers in the Arab world and the MENA region.
For the next editions, the organizers will choose, each year, a new host country to host the award ceremony. With three trophies won this year, could Morocco be the next host?
