Rabat – Moroccan-Chinese consortium, CRCC/TGCC, has won the call for tenders to construct Africa’s tallest skyscraper, undertaken by billionaire, Othmane Benjelloun.
FinanceCom, owned by the billionaire Othmane Benjelloun, announced on Thursday that, among the seven bidders who had applied, it has settled on the Moroccan-Chinese consortium CRCC/TGCC to build the tallest skyscraper in Africa.
Named the Tower of Rabat, the structure will be a gigantic edifice, 250 meters high, set to be built in the Bouregreg valley. It will contain offices and residences throughout the 65 stories.
A scale model of the edifice was presented to Moroccan Monarch, King Mohammed VI, in March of 2016. Afterward FinanceCom undertook an international consultation which lasted 8 months before it decided to award the tender to the Moroccan and public Chinese team of firms.
The design of the Rabat Tower was realized by Moroccan architect, Hakim Benjelloun, and his Spanish counterpart, Rafael De La Hoz.
The overall investment announced for the construction of the project is MAD 3 billion (USD 300 million). When completed, it will be 27 meters higher than Johannesburg’s Carlton Center, which is currently the tallest skyscraper in Africa.
