Rabat – An income of more than MAD 90.5 billion and about MAD 500 million worth of confiscated goods was collected by Moroccan customs in 2016, says the Customs and Indirect Tax Administration (ADII) in its activity report for the year.

The ADII reports that the field monitoring operations have achieved remarkable results, with the recovery of more than MAD 10.2 billion of the declared values, generating an additional revenue of MAD 2.7 billion.

The Moroccan customs also state the seizure of over 2.25 million counterfeit items, 12.5 million cigarette units, 53 tons of narcotics, and 19 tons of plastic bags.

The report also reports the treatment of no less than 1 million declarations in 2016 and the clearance of nearly 155,000 passenger cars.

The extension of controls on the management of litigation and the recovery of duties and taxes also experienced a qualitative leap through the introduction of a new level of support for the BADR system, which allows for comprehensive management of the circuit of contentious cases from their recognition until their closure.

The strengthening of the capacity of the ADII has materialized in many ways, firstly by strengthening its staff of almost 400 people, 137 of which were promoted to new posts, and the completion of more than 52,000 training days.

Moroccan Customs has also consolidated its international presence through the important role it plays at the level of the World Customs Organization, but also in the accompaniment of many African customs administrations.
