Rabat – A witness in the Gdim Izik trial has recognized one the accused as having been involved in the death of a Moroccan Auxiliary Forces member.

During the May 9 hearing in the Criminal Chamber of the Salé Court of Appeals, the witness, a captain of the Auxiliary Forces, asserted under oath that Mohamed Bani, who was driving an SUV during the dismantling of the camp in 2010, had abducted one of the members of the Auxiliary Forces, adding that he himself had barely managed to escape unharmed.

Two other defense witnesses were questioned by the Court, prosecution, and defense on Monday , Hassan Daki, the Prosecutor General of the King at the Rabat court, said in a press statement following the hearing. He stated that the hearing was enamelled by legal proceedings concerning the provisions of Article 337 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, noting that the Court decided to continue the hearing of the other witnesses on Tuesday, May 9.

Daki concluded that this 13th hearing of the trial was conducted under normal conditions, with complete respect to the civil and human rights of all the parties and the guarantee of the conditions of a fair trial, recalling that the defense had time to intervene, question the accused, and comment on some of the answers.

The events of Gdim Izik occurred in October and November 2010, resulting in the death of 11 people and injury of 70 members of the Moroccan security forces and four civilians, as well as massive damage to public facilities and the private property of others. The perpetrators are being prosecuted for the formation of criminal gangs and use of violence against the Moroccan security forces, resulting in their death.
