Rabat – The case of sexual blackmail that was a hot topic at Abdelmalek Essaadi University in Tetouan has made the headlines of local media. With the professor in question confessing, risking up to 20 years in prison, the case is back on the frontlines.

After being arrested by the Regional Department of Judicial Police in Tetouan on May 5 on charges of sexually blackmailing  students in exchange for preferential grades , the professor denied the charges. He acknowledged the allegations later on.

“After denying everything in the first session of his interrogation before the judicial police, he eventually cracked and confessed. His custody was extended after the Tetouan Court of Appeals prosecutor’s office called for further investigation,” Moroccan daily newspaper Al Akhbar reported on Wednesday.

The judicial police interviewed four female students involved in the case. The police have also seized the sexual messages exchanged between the professor and the students on WhatsApp, reported the daily.

The professor first refused to answer questions during his interrogation at the Attorney General’s office, indicated the daily, Al Massae. He was eventually left speechless over tangible proof in the possession of the police, and had no other option but to acknowledge the charges against him. Among other damning evidence against him, a test score written in the professor’s handwriting in favor of a student who received a score of 18 out of 20 in exchange for sexual intercourse was presented to the police, adds the same source.

The offender confessed to suffer from a psychological illness that lead him to urge his students to sleep with him in exchange for better grades.  “Initially, he said that the exchanges were a kind of hobby before they became part of real-life situations,” said the newspaper, quoting the investigators.
