Rabat – Saudi Arabia’s Grand Mufti, Sheikh Abdul Aziz bin Abdullah Al-Sheikh, has declared in a fatwa that the decisions taken by the Saudi kingdom against Qatar are beneficial to Muslims and Qataris as well.
The Saudi Mufti said, “Saudi Arabia is an Islamic country that provides and does well.” He continued, saying that “the recent decisions taken by the Kingdom and a number of countries against Qatar are procedural matters that benefit the Muslims and benefit the future of the Qataris themselves as well…, it is beneficial to all.”
Following his Fatwa, Anwar El-Badawi, a Qatari Islamic judge, wrote a letter to the Mufti pointing out to him that what he said is contradictory to the Quran, the Sunnah and the general consensus.
He then asked all Muslim Nations to work together to resolve the conflict between Qatar and the other Gulf countries.
El-Badawi added that this blockade does not represent the real image or define the qualities of a Muslim nation or a Muslim individual.
He also pointed that this decision resulted in prohibiting Qatari people from entering the Grand Mosque of Mecca and many mixed-citizenship couples are now facing separation.
He said in his letter: “Did you know that the people of Qatar were banned from the Grand Mosque because of the blockade? What good comes from this? Did you know that a young Saudi was prevented from the funeral of his father because of your Fatwa? Did you know that Saudi, Emirati and Bahraini wives were forced to leave their Qatari husbands and children because of your fatwa?”
The Islamic Judge also stated that God has prohibited breaking up relationships between individual Muslims. As He said in his Holy Book: “So would you perhaps, if you turned away, cause corruption on earth and sever your [ties of] relationship?”
Anwar Al-Badawi added that the Mufti’s fatwa cultivated hatred of the homeland and the rulers in the hearts of people. He expressed his hope that every Islamic Qadi or Mufti will be a reason for reunification and facilitate the removal of the dispute, and create a reconciliation between these Arab nations.
Saudi Arabia, alongside with Emirates, Bahrain, Egypt, Lybia, Yemen and the Maldives all announced June 4 that they were severing their ties with Qatar. This decision was taken after Qatar was accused of financially backing radical Islamist groups.
