Rabat – Thomas Reilly, Britain’s new ambassador to Morocco, released his introductory message in a video on Twitter on Wednesday.
His message touched on the centuries-long relationship between the two countries and highlighted his mission to “further deepen our 800-year-old relationship, forging a strong partnership of equals, to take advantage of our already existing strong commercial and cultural links, and face the security challenges in the region and at home.”
Brits already account for 600,000 visitors to the Kingdom. Reilly, however, spoke of his hopes in increasing that number in the coming years.
Addressing Morocco’s growing economic expansion into sub-Saharan Africa, the ambassador pledged cooperation in “identifying and developing opportunities for mutual beneficial trade partnerships” between the United Kingdom and Morocco.
Lastly, Reilly lauded Morocco’s commitment to embracing English, saying that he also hopes to “deepen academic, educational and cultural ties.”
Reilly delivered his message following the Queen’s speech on the occasion of the State Opening of Parliament.
