Rabat – In the early hours of Monday morning, a big fire took place at a scrap heap in the Aïn Borja district of Casablanca’s Hay Mohammadi.

Eyewitnesses said the first firemen arrived 30 minutes after the fire began, and they soon called for reinforcements.

Furniture, wood and plastic were engulfed by the blaze, which panicked nearby residents.

The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage are currently unknown. It is also unclear if anybody was injured.

In December 2016, Hay Mohammadi’s shopping centre caught fire, ruining 25 shops and damaging 10 others. Two people suffered slight burns.
