Rabat – Morocco’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom has stated that there is no news about the numerous Moroccan families that resided in Grenfell Tower in west London which was engulfed by fire on June 14.
Abdeslam Aboudrar, Ambassador of Morocco to the United Kingdom stated that many Moroccan families remain missing after the Grenfell Tower tragedy that has claimed the lives of 30 individuals. The number is expected to increase.
A number of reports have indicated that Moroccan families are among those missing since the fire. Among the many families declared missing is that of Aziz El Wahabi, Adil and Fouzia and their four children, Nour, Houda, Yassine and Mehdi, who dwelled on the 21st floor.
News has also spread that British authorities have been unable to find many individuals and families and that it has had difficulty identifying the deceased who have been found.
The Moroccan Ambassador, who confirmed that many families from Moroccan origins are missing, stated in an interview with French-language news source Le360 that the tower “continued to burn until yesterday.”
The official added that what has made the identification process more difficult is that British authorities still have difficulty accessing the tower.
Mona Qabbani, who survived the tragedy, stated on June 16 that 40 percent of the residents of the building are immigrants, the majority of whom are Moroccans. The rest come from different Arab nationalities.
“Every now and then we remember some Moroccan families through their photos and we notify the British authorities. I hope they are not among the victims,” said Qabbani.
