Rabat – The Royal Gendarmerie National Research Division in Rabat has caught a Basha (Ministry of Interior’s representative) taking a bribe of MAD 5,000 in the Rommani district of Khemisset province, reported Moroccan daily Assabah on Saturday.
The arrest, which was conducted by Gendarmerie under the supervision of the Ministry of Justice and the Attorney-General of the King in Rabat, came after they received a phone call from a young, unemployed man claiming to be blackmailed by the Basha.
Assabah added that the investigators coordinated with the young man to arrest the Basha. Once the investigators had counterfeited MAD 5,000 with the serial numbers preserved, the young man went to the Basha’s office to deliver the envelope of money. Five minutes after the handover of money, members of the National Division of Judicial Research raided the office, catching the Basha in possession of the amount.
The Public Prosecution ordered the official to be transferred to the Royal Gendarmerie’s headquarters in Rabat, and placed him under custody for investigation.
