Rabat – Rabat’s Mohammed VI Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art is set to host a major exhibition devoted to the great masters of the impressionist wave of art in May 2019, announced the President of the National Museum Foundation of Morocco (FNMM), Mehdi Qotbi.
Following a meeting with the President of the Musée d’Orsay, Laurence des Cars, Qotbi explained that this exhibition will gather from 80 to 100 works of renowned impressionist painters, including Augustus Renoir, Claude Monet, Edouard Manet and Paul Cezanne, reported Maghreb Arab Press (MAP).
The same source added that the president of the FNMM expressed his thanks to the wife of the French President, Brigitte Macron, for her support in organizing this artistic event in Morocco.
“The President of the Musée d’Orsay was very pleased with the organization of this event in Morocco and highlighted the important role played by Morocco in the promotion of culture and art and the development of an artistic relationship between France and Morocco,” said Qotbi.
The president of the FNMM explained that this exhibition of the great masters of impressionism is part of the development of international exhibitions of renowned artists in Morocco, such as the one hosted in 2016 at Rabat’s Mohammed VI Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art featuringa retrospective of Alberto Giacometti, a great figure of the Surrealist current.
Qotbi has also indicated that Rabat will host an exhibition on the Mediterranean modernity gathering collections of the George Pompidou Center in 2018, as well as another exhibition in 2020 devoted to the works of Eugene de la Croix.
“The support of King Mohammed VI and the special interest that the Sovereign brings to the culture and the art are for us undeniable assets and assures us to continue promoting culture,” emphasized Qotbi, adding that the different events organized by the National Museum Foundation of Morocco will contribute to making Rabat “a city of light and a capital of the culture.”
Held from May 17 to July 31, the “Facing Picasso” exhibition, devoted to the pioneer of Cubism is, according to Qotbi, a great success, with more than 18,000 visitors and more than one hundred paintings, sculptures, ceramics, photographs, drawings and prints from the collections of the National Museum Picasso-Paris.
