Rabat – Liverpool has officially appointed Andoni Iraola as their new head coach after the shocking dismissal of the former coach Arne Slot.
The English club did not share contract details of the newly appointed coach, British media report Iraola signed a two-year deal.
“You don’t need a lot of things to get attracted to Liverpool. Liverpool is Liverpool,” the club’s website quoted Iraola as saying. “But feeling inside and understanding a little bit more of this club, I always thought it’s a special club.”
Fans and critics complained about Liverpool’s slow play under Slot. Iraola is expected to bring back the fast, high-energy style the team used under former manager Jürgen Klopp.
Iraola joins Liverpool after a very successful time at Bournemouth, where the team improved every year, finishing 12th, ninth, and finally sixth this season, qualifying Bournemouth for European football for the first time ever.
The spanish tactician began coaching in 2018 with AEK Larnaca in Cyprus before returning to Spain, where he led second-division Mirandés to the Copa del Rey semi-finals and earned promotion to La Liga with Rayo Vallecano.
Known for his intense, high-pressing tactical style, he has now taken over as head coach at Liverpool.
