Rabat – The city of Fes will host the 15th National Festival of Malhoun Art from July 21 to 29 under the theme “For the Preservation of Our Artistic Heritage.”

The nine-day event will gather together numerous Malhoun groups and orchestras from across the kingdom. The festival will be held in several places of the city, including the Jnan Sbil and Lalla Amina gardens.

Malhoun is a form of sung poetry descending from Moorish North Africa, with artists from Morocco, Tunisia, and Algeria all practicing this valuable genre of art.

The event will comprise ofcultural activities and conferences featuring the attendance of several art researchers and professionals. It aims to promote and enhance intangible cultural heritage in Morocco.

The festival will also feature a tribute to Mohamed Soussi, president of the Thami El Medghari Association for the Art of Malhoun, who has contributed to the promotion of this artistic heritage.

The festival will be organized by the urban community of the city of Fes. The previous edition of the festival was held under the slogan “Art of Malhoun Between Preservation and Renewal.”
