Rabat – King Mohammed VI chaired a reception celebrating Throne Day on Sunday at Marchane Palace in Tangier, and was accompanied by Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan, Prince Moulay Rachid and Prince Moulay Ismail.

During the ceremony the King decorated national and international figures with royal Ouissams [royal decoration].

The sovereign granted the award of Wissam Al Kafaa Al Fikria [Intellectual Competence] to Adnane Remmal, the Moroccan biologist who won the European Inventor of the Year Award for developing new methods to improve the effectiveness of antibiotics, by using herbal oils and medicinal plants.

National and international officials were in attendance, including Moroccan Head of Government, Saad Eddine El Othmani and President of Gabon, Ali Bongo Ondimba.

Abdelouahed Ben-Ncer, a professor at the National Institue of Archaeology and Heritage in Rabat was also granted the same award. Ben-Ncer is one of the supervisors of the international research team who discovered the 300,000-year old homosapian bones in Jbel Irhoud in Morocco. Jean Jacques Hublin, a professor and president of a research department at the Max Plack Institute in Germany, was also member of the team and he received the same award from the King.

The Order of Merit of the second class was given to Oussama Meftah, who passed his Baccalaureate exam on human sciences and letterature with the “Fairly well” grade despite a disability.
