Rabat – Minister of Justice and Liberties Mustapha Ramid has criticized to the video of Rif Protests leader Nasser Zefzafi exposing his body to deny torture allegations, published on Monday by the news website Barlamane.

“I felt great pain while watching on a news website the video of the detainee Nasser Zefzafi in a state considered to be an inexcusable humiliation of an unarmed citizen, no matter what the accusations against him,” wrote Ramid on his Facebook page this Tuesday morning.

The Minister in charge of Human Rights expressed his indignation at the video, “which we do not know until now, the place where it was filmed or the conditions under which it was made!”

Ramid asserted that “justice alone remains entitled to determine the guilty party.”

For Ramid, the video is a “blatant violation of a citizen’s dignity.” The minister expressed his outrage at the publication of the footage in what he considered to be a “clear challenge to all ethical values and legal texts.”

While reiterating his “anger against these completely unjustified childishness,” Ramid said he contacted the Minister of Interior, Abdelouafi Leftit, who, after viewing the video, “in turn expressed his anger.”

“We were unanimous, including the Minister of Justice [Mohammed Auajjar], on the need to open a serious and thorough investigation to expose the truth around this issue and apply the law,” he added.

The minister said that he “had previously stated, at a meeting with human rights NGOs, that the blood of Moroccans is a red line. I would add today that the dignity of all Moroccans is a red line.”

On July 10, the Casablanca public prosecutor’s office announced “the opening of a thorough investigation to elucidate the conditions and circumstances of this recording and the purposes of its publication.”

In his post, the minister was reassuring about the “seriousness and integrity of the investigation,” which will aim to “reach the truth that everyone must know and have the necessary legal effect.”
