Rabat – Although Sound Energy faced disappointment in its explorations in Italy, the discovery of the rise of the gas production on Wednesday at Sidi Mokthar project in Morocco has once again brightened the company’s prospects.
Sound told investors that the re-entry into Sidi Mokhtar’s KoBa-1 well has been successful, with the well having been re-entered and perforated and gas having flared at surface. The well site is located close to existing infrastructure and gas demand.
It is anticipated that the Koba-1 will be put into production rapidly following the well test program. The company has reported that a 5 meter interval of the Argovian reservoir was perforated, and the well has been temporarily suspended ahead of a rig-less well test.
Chief Executive Officer James Parsons said members in Sound Energy were happy to receive news of the discovery. “[We] look forward to both the extended well test and to unlocking the deeper, and much larger, pre-salt potential in the future.”
He also added, “Our attention now turns back to our very significant position in Eastern Morocco where we are preparing for further near term drilling and seismic.”
Seeing the potential for deeper pre-salt reservoirs in the Sidi Mokhtar, the company plans to reprocess existing 2D and capture new 3D seismic to make this potential come to reality.
In the past, Sound Energy had intended to deepen the Koba-w well and immediately re-drill the Kamar-1 well to test Lower Liassic reservoirs, which are changing due to poor quality cement bonding seen the Koba-q well.
Along with the pre-salt potential, those reservoirs will be examined in future programs, as the frill rig to re-enter Koba-1 will now be released to the groups’ other licenses in Morocco.
