Rabat – The Moroccan association “Agadir Just for Laughter” launched the International Laughter Festival on Wednesday evening in Agadir’s open air theater, where many North African comedians used humor to discuss the social issues that plague the Arab world.

Moroccan comedian Abderrahman Abed, known as “Eco,” and Algerian artist Abdelkader Siktor shone under the lights of the opening ceremony. In front of more than 2,000 spectators, the two artists wielded their humor to dish out  political messages.

Through their show entitled “Neighbors,” they focused on the social relationship that unite Morocco and Algeria, stressing that the two countries are “bonded at heart.”

Tunisian artist Lotfi Abdelali offered the public a poignant show described as “harsh,” denouncing the “schizophrenia” in which the Arab world lives, especially regarding the social relationships within Arab and Muslim households.

The launch of the event saw the participation of  many Agadir residents, who helped in the preparation and organization of the festival.

The festival will continue until August 26, with the participation of more than 30 artists, representing six countries from the continents of Africa and Europe.

The festival was also supported by the Agadir Regional Council for Tourism, the Agadir Municipal Council, the Sous Massa Council, and various private companies.
